Philippine hostage crisis ends with several hostages alive

MANILA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Philippine hostage crisis ended here on Monday night with several hostages still alive, local TV footage showed.

The hostage-taker, former Police Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza, was killed after local police assaulted the bus to save the hostages, according to footage broadcast on television.

At least six captives were confirmed alive, while two captives were confirmed dead.
