17 injured in New Year's revelry in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The City Health Office said 17 individuals sustained fireworks-related injuries during the New Year’s Eve revelry here.

ILLEGAL fireworks seized in Zamboanga City.

Most of the victims were male from 12 to 26-years-old.

Of the initial batch of six cases before the New Year, five of them faced amputation due to severe injuries. One male victim reportedly suffered severe eye injury.

The victims allegedly used illegal firecrackers.

They were injured despite a city ordinance reiterating a national prohibition on the use of illegal firecrackers.

Figures were taken from private and public hospitals here and did not include those who sought treatment in clinics or who refused to go to medical facilities.
