Some party-list groups submitted more than one set of nominees -- Comelec

  By Leslie Ann Aquino Some partylist groups that filed their Certificates of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) submitted more than one set of nominees for the May 2019 midterm polls. (MANILA BULLETIN) (MANILA BULLETIN) Based on the list of Comelec, these groups are the Coalition of Associations of Senior Citizens in the Philippines (Senior Citizens), Acts-Overseas Filipino Workers Coalition of Organizations (ACTS-OFW) and Murang Kuryente party-lists. The Coalition of Associations of Senior Citizens in the Philippines (Senior Citizens) submitted three sets of nominees after Francisco Datol, Milagros Magsaysay, and Godofredo Arquiza, all of whom claim to be the president of Senior Citizens, submitted their respective list. The three are also the first nominees of their respective lists. Acts-Overseas Filipino Workers Coalition of Organizations (ACTS-OFW) and Murang Kuryente party-lists, on the other hand, filed two sets of nominees. The first set of nominees of ACTS-OFW was filed by its president, Ernesto Maceda, and had as first nominee Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III. The other ACTS-OFW list of nominees was submitted by its president, Feliciano Adorna Jr, who is also the first nominee. As for Murang Kuryente, the first set of nominees was filed by its president, William Juan, with Armando Diaz as the first nominee. The other list of Murang Kuryente nominees was submitted by the authorized representative of its president, Salvacion Perez, with Antonio Paredes as the first nominee. Based on Republic Act 7941 (Party-list System Act) party-lists that submitted their Manifestations of Intent to Participate are required to include “a list” of at least five nominees, from which party-list representatives shall be chosen in case the group obtains the required number of votes.
