First batch of tablets for Pasig's public school students arrives

The first batch of learning devices procured by the Pasig City government for public school students in the city has arrived, Mayor Vico Sotto said Wednesday.

The mayor shared photos on his social media accounts the arrival of the first 20,000 computer tablets to be distributed to all public school students in Pasig.

“Eto na sila! First delivery of tablets for our public school students. Nandito na ang unang 20,000 na tablets! (Here they are! First delivery of tablets for our public school students. The first 20,000 tablets are here!),” Sotto said.

Following the arrival of the devices, inspectors from the local government checked the functionality of the tablets.

Despite the challenges brought about by the health crisis, the Department of Education (DepEd) will push through with the school opening on October 5.

The Pasig City government was among the local government units who stepped up and supported the implementation of distance learning modality amid the pandemic.

The city government has allocated over P1.3 billion for the purchase of laptops and gadgets, which will then be distributed to public school students and teachers in Pasig.

Sotto earlier said that the local government will start the distribution of educational tablets to public school students on October 1, adding that the suppliers are set to deliver the devices on September 30.

“May penalty silang milyon kung hindi nila mabibigay sa takdang oras (The supplier will be fined a million if they would fail to deliver the gadgets on September 30),” he said.
