Currently featured at the Sining Kamalig gallery on the 4th floor of Gateway Mall in Cubao is Pixel Perfect – The Exhibition. On display are the eight works comprised of 45 digitally abstracted photographs in Henry Bateman’s third book of photography, Pixel Perfect. Through the computer, Bateman goes beyond the surface image of his photograph and explores “the basic building blocks of the digital structure, the pixels.” He manipulates these artistically to produce a new image.

The images by the Australian artist mirror in abstract form his particular experiences since immigrating to this country four years ago. While this is Bateman’s third solo show locally, it is the first exhibition of the photographs as cohesive works of art. The photographs are printed as archival inkjet on canvas prints.

The exhibit runs until May 21. Don’t miss this chance to see the work of the only artist in the world doing this kind of digital abstraction. Prior to working with digital photography, Henry Bateman was a painter and a theatrical set and lighting designer.

And now to our featured readers.

Jan Vincent “JV” Muñoz from City of San Fernando, Pampanga describes himself as a budding photographer and a musician. JV sent in images of the Holy Week activities in his home province.

Albert Go shares that he got his DSLR only last December. “I’m still a beginner who basically takes a shot at anything just to capture moments,” he says. His photo, Kuya, reminds him of “the good old days.”

From Singapore, Filipino expat Oliver Ryan Alaiza sent in images from his trek up Mt. Gunung in Datuk Malaysia. More of his photpography can be viewed at flickr.com/photos/joeyalaiza/sets/72157614684709548/ and joeyalaiza.multiply.com/photos/album/43.

Lawyer Nonoy Solidum writes  that since high school, he was already interested in photography. However, he says that due to “college life, career and family” his hobby was put on the sidelines for a long time. His interest was revived when his daughter asked him for a digital camera. “It has been a very fulfilling hobby!” he shares.

Last featured reader Kent Balbino says that since he got a DSLR last year, his “passion for photography has been realized.” “From then on, I got addicted to this hobby to the point of considering shifting my career to photography.  I’m into travel photography and my favorite subjects are landscapes, people/culture, and anything that shows at the viewfinder of my camera.”

He shares that he has been learning from Internet forums, reading, and from fellow photographers. He hones his skill by practicing composition even without a camera. Kent reveals that his greatest dream today is a studio photoshoot.
