CA confirms appointment of AFP generals, colonels

The powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) today confirmed the appointments of Arnulfo Marcelo B. Burgos as Lieutenant General and 29 other ranking officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The CA later suspended its session but would continue public hearings to determine the fitness and integrity of the appointments or nominations of close to 200 other ranking AFP officers and a Cabinet member.

Since the CA is on a break, the CA housing committee chaired by Senator Francis ‘’Tol’’ Tolentino will continue its public hearing on the appointment of Eduardo Drueco del Rosario as secretary of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD).

Also confirmed by the CA during its plenary session presided by Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, concurrent CA chairman, were Henry A. Robinson Jr. as Major General; and Allan D. Hambala, Noe Alberto Q. Penafiel and Pedro S. Francisco as Brigadier Generals.

The CA, likewise, confirmed the appointments of 21 colonels in the Philippine Army and Philippine Air Force, and four captains in the Philippine Navy.

The confirmation of the 30 senior officers in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was recommended by Rep. Luis A. Ferrer IV, chairman of the CA national defense committee, after a public hearing.
